Jewellery was made from thin metal leaf and was set with large number of brightly-colored stones in Mesopotamia. Then talking about the Greeks, they started using gold and gems in jewellery in 1600 BC. By 300 BC, the Greeks were mastered in making colored jewelry and using amethysts, pearl and emeralds. Although jewellery work was abundantly diverse in earlier times, when the Romans conquered the most of Europe, jewellery was changed as smaller factions developed the Roman designs.

The Indian subcontinent has the longest continuous legacy of jewellery making anywhere, with a history of over 5,000 years. The people of the Indus Valley Civilization were the first one to start jewelry making. Although the China started making the jewelry around the same period, but it became widespread with the spread of Buddhism around 2,000 years ago.

There were mainly many American cultures which were expertise in jewellery making common among them was the Aztecs, the Mixtecs, the Mayans and the Mochica.
